Carragher wanted one Liverpool player sold after 30 minutes against Leeds — not Fabinho

Despite Liverpool absolutely obliterating Leeds United on Monday night, Diogo Jota seemed to start the game ever so slowly. Although the likes of Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Anorld were proving pretty solid in midfield.

The Portuguese forward lost the ball 15 times in the first 30 minutes in what was beginning to look like another difficult night on the road for the Reds.

"After half an hour I’d sold Jota, I’d got £25m for him, and I was looking around at spending," Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

"I’d maybe get 30 now on the back of this. Listen, he had a really poor first half an hour, and if it had continued at nil-nil until half-time I think Nunez would have come on for him.

"We just see him at that far post, and I must be honest, he’s come back in after being out for a while with injury, and I’m not quite sure why Nunez isn’t playing."

A few minutes after Carra's criticism of Jota, Liverpool turned the screw on their host and banged in two goals. Jota assisted Salah for one of those goals and followed it up with his first goal in over a year.

Jota's goal drought coincided with a bad spell with injuries with the striker missing nearly six months out with a knee problem this season.
