'It was a special moment': James Milner struggles to hold back emotions after final Liverpool game

Liverpool stalwart James Milner bid farewell to Anfield in his last match for the club, marking the end of a remarkable career with the Reds. He couldn't hold back his emotions after receiving a guard of honour.

The 37-year-old was brought on with 20 minutes to go in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa to a raucous reception by the Anfield faithful.

He told BBC Sport after the match: "It was a special moment. I've been lucky to have a pretty good time here. It is a special place, I might play here again, who knows. The trophy Liverpool always wanted was the league title and to leave after eight years and have done that, it's what you hope happens.

"I've had an unbelievable time here. I'm content. Happy with the job and the team I've been a part of and the success we've contributed to the club's history.

"One more game to go, it would be nice to finish with a win. I've been available most of the year, I've contributed and I still feel good. Age is just a number."
