According to reliable Argentinian journalist 

, the next week will be crucial for the future of 

 midfielder's father who is also his agent will travel to England for face-to-face talks.

The negotiations with Liverpool are well advanced, and it's down to some final details. The Reds have offered Mac Allister a deal until 2028.

According to previous reports, Brighton's asking price will not be an issue due to a clause in the player's contract.

Mac Allister is claimed to have other suitors, including Chelsea, but Liverpool look to be in the front seat as things stand.

 have been strongly linked to two young midfielders who have successfully been honing their craft in the Premier League — 

Both players come with a bunch of similarities. They're both attack-minded midfielders with a similar price tag. According to multiple sources, each of these midfielders will probably cost Liverpool £70m.

They're also agemates - Mac Allister was born on December 24, 1998 - 2 weeks and three days before Mount arrived.

However, stats from the last two seasons can help us differentiate what looks like an identical pair. It'll give us an idea of who's better when it comes down to three prerequisites for an attacking midfielder to thrive at a big club like Liverpool — passing, pressing and goal contributions.

Mount and Mac Allister are not much apart when it comes to creating dangerous situations through passing.

Mount seems slightly deadlier when it comes to playmaking but this may be explained by the fact he’s used differently. Mac Allister usually plays in a double pivot alongside a tough tackler Moises Caicedo but often bursts forward while Mount is more of a free roamer.

Neither eclipses Thiago Alcantara in terms of passing accuracy but that shouldn’t be the decider because Thiago is more of a deep playmaker and it’s easier for him to clock progressive passes. 5.9 progressive passes for Mount and 5.4 for Mac Allister are good numbers.

An important part of Jurgen Klopp’s football is winning the ball back: if Salah or Nunez lose the ball, it’s important to prevent a turnover asap. This is where Mount excels averaging 0.6 tackels in the final third — one of the highest in the league.

Mac Allister is slightly more prolific at tackling overall but the majority of his tackles are in the middle of the park. He is among the top 8% of midfielders in the top-5 leagues in terms of tackles per game.

Once again, we have players of slightly different profiles but both are at the very least competent at winning the ball back. Mount is more engaged in the final third while Mac Allister is more of an across-the-pitch footballer.

Mount has been simply brilliant with his goalscoring since breaking into Chelsea's team. He bagged double figures in goals last season (13) but Mac Allister has matched him in that regard this term with 10 league goals so far and 12 in all competitions.

Two things might explain this goalscoring and xG from the Argentine: half of his goals are penalties and he used to be a forward so he knows what to do in the final third.

Mount and Mac Allister are having completely different seasons so the comparison is a bit unfair. While the Argentine has been scoring for fun this term, the Englishman’s campaign has flattered to deceive with his team set to finish in the bottom half of the league for the first time in 27 years. 

Besides that, Mount has battled with injuries this year and is currently sidelined for the rest of the season with a pelvis problem. That raises the question about durability although in previous seasons, the Englishman played almost every game from 1 to 90...

At this best though, Mount is a fantastic footballer with a skillset suited to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool: lots of off-the-ball work, efficiency in front of goal and durability.
