'He's had everything at his fingertips': Stan Collymore explains why Guardiola is not 'greatest' manager ever

Speaking to the Mirror, Stan Collymore said: "Pep Guardiola is among the top 20 managers in history but I can't put him down as the greatest because of his Champions League record. All three of his clubs have been the richest or second richest in their countries and had near unlimited resources available.

"But he still hasn't won the Champions League for 12 years. That's the biggest factor around deciding where to rank him and when it comes to deciding on the very best he is not even in the conversation right now. At Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Guardiola has had everything at his fingertips.

"In terms of style his teams may have pushed the ceiling of how you could play higher but he has still fallen short for longer than a decade in the competition that matters most. The Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga are now so skewed that only one or two clubs can actually win it. And that weakens Pep's status."

Guardiola's Man City side are on the verge of winning a historic Treble after beating Manchester United 2–1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have emerged as the only side that could compete with Pep's team in England in recent years despite City's unlimited resources.
