According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool opted not to take a chance to sign Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka for free.
"In the second part of this market, I think [Liverpool] will look at the centre-backs market, a left-footed centre-back," Romano said on his Here We Go podcast.
"Evan Ndicka was offered to Liverpool but they decided against it and he’s now joining Roma.
"So there were some possibilities, and I think Liverpool will explore the centre-back market."
The 6ft 3in centre-back was first linked with Liverpool back in March, and he appeared to be an option the Reds have monitored.
Signing a left-footed centre-back is reportedly still on the agenda, as Liverpool are now reportedly interested in Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven who is well-known to sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.
