'They won the treble and rightly so': Robertson on what Liverpool must do to compete with Man City again

 winning the treble last season and whether the Reds can return to the level they were at in the years gone by.

“City were a class apart from the whole league last season," Robbo said.

"We weren't anywhere close to that. Obviously the last four, five seasons, we have been the team that has pushed them, we’ve been the team that has tried to compete with them, but this season they won it all.

"They won the treble and rightly so, they were the best team in Europe by a country mile and deserve all the plaudits they are going to get. But we can’t concentrate on other teams, we were below the standards we have set for ourselves and it is up to us to try and get back to that and if we do, I believe we can be successful again."

When asked if Liverpool can dethrone Man City once again, Robbo replied: “We have to be back to our best and we believe if we are back to our best, we can compete with any team, but if we drop below those standards then we know we are struggling.

"That is what we have done this season - we dropped below the consistent standards we set for ourselves the last five, six years and we have been punished for it. We have to deal with that and try to make sure it doesn't happen again.”

Robertson: 'Scary thing is Trent will improve in midfield'

 and that is the biggest compliment I can pay him. He adapts to anything you ask of him, he's still relatively young but he has a wise head on his shoulders," 

"When you're that technically gifted, you have that much talent, you can play any position and he would make the most of it. He has that aggression and that will to succeed. It's been tough for him with 

"He's probably not played as much as he wants, been left out of some squads, but they've found a position for him. Now he can play there and the scary thing is he will improve in that position as well. Obviously that's from an England point of view.

"We're more interested in the Liverpool point of view. We'll see what happens there, what position he takes up in pre season."

Trent has been used in a hybrid full-back/midfielder role at Liverpool in the 2023/24 season but Gareth Southgate took a step further and played him as a central midfielder in 4-0 and 7-0 victories against Malta and North Macedonia.

I'm a scouser and Geoff Twentymen LFC scout came to watch my team, surprisingly the player alongside me Neil Robinson later went on to play for Everton first team. ( I made him look good)

King Kenny

Way back when. It seems it was slightly easier back in the day. Back when we were wee lads. I will soon be 58 & watched my 1st match in 71. A 2-1 Win against Arsenal at Highbury. Great memories. I live in Oz these days. So ex pat  YNWA

And LFC banked £40,000 from Keegan sale/Dalglish purchase deal which was a great bit of business  in the days before the money in football went crazy.

440k for Kenny.  I can remember  as an 8 year old kid being disgusted that we were replacing the irreplacable KK with a guy from the Scottish league.  Within about 3 weeks of  the season I had a new hero who would also be KK.

was it only 440k. To think Salah now gerts 350k a week and with bonuses 500k so could but Kenny for about 6 days of Salahs wages

Know not PL but when Keegan went to Hamburg and Sir Bob immediately got Kenny for 1m from Celtic.
