Eddie Howe feels 'hard done' after Liverpool game despite conceding highest-ever xG in Premier League

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was frustrated after losing to Liverpool 4-2 with Anfield. But not with his own team which was played off the park for the entirety of the game. The Englishman thinks Anthony Taylor was wrong to give two penalties to the Reds.

He also insists that Newcastle should have been given a penalty for Sean Longstaff falling in the box after coming in contact with Wataru Endo. Curtis Jones gave the Reds a 2-1 lead shortly after the incident.

Howe said post-match, as quoted by the BBC: "A lot happened. Action packed game. We're disapointed with the way we defended.

"I didn't think the second one [Jota] was a penalty. And I did think Sean Longstaff's one before that was.

"It shouldn't be given. Martin has pulled his hand away. He's had two steps before going down. For me it's not a penalty. Even the first one [Diaz] the contact was so minimal. We feel hard done by.

"You have to have the mindset that you create your luck. Feeling sorry for yourself never has any positive outcome. The players gave everything. I back the quality of the group. In time we'll get the results we need.

"I thought Liverpool played very well. It was a really tough game for us.

"I'm still confused over the penalties we conceded. The second one especially didn't look like a penalty. We had one before that [not given], that was probably the turning point."

It has to be noted that Liverpool recorded the highest xG (expected goals) ever seen in a Premier League game. The Reds created chance after chance after chance, so the audacity from Howe to complain about refereeing is baffling.
