Liverpool are looking for a sporting director after Jorg Schmadtke's departure earlier this winter. The search is rather urgent as the new sporting director will be in charge of finding a successor to Jurgen Klopp.
The Athletic say that the Reds contacted former sporting director Michael Edwards immediately after the Klopp exit news broke out. However, the Englishman declined Liverpool's offer to rejoin the club.
One of the candidates the Reds are looking at is Frederic Massara. Formerly of Roma and Milan, he's available to start working right now. Another option is Florent Ghisolfi but his current club Nice 'would fight' to retain him.
There is also an option to promote Dave Fallows and / or Barry Hunter, who are currently head scouts in Liverpool's recruitment team.
FSG president Mike Gordon is leading the sporting director search. In addition to choosing a new head coach and negotiating with him, the new sporting director would be responsible for new contracts for Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. These deals expire in 2025.
