What Harvey Elliott did to prove Chelsea wrong after they rejected him aged 11

Harvey Elliott was rejected by Chelsea's academy at an early age. The midfielder was told that he was 'too small' to become a good player.

The Athletic report that the Blues feared he won't develop the strength and endurance needed to play professional football.

Following the advice of his father Scott, Harvey took up a 'gruelling hill climbing training programme' which built up his stamina.

Ascents in Surrey have clearly worked as Chelsea are probably kicking themselves for missing out on such a player.

After Chelsea rejected him, the Englishman trained with QPR before making a switch to Fulham U18s. He went on to become the youngest player to feature in the Premier League at that time, making his first appearance aged 15 years and 174 days.

Elliott joined Liverpool in 2019 and, as the saying goes, 'the rest is history' as he's established himself as an important squad player — and we often forget that he's only 20.
