Former Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic has seemingly advocated a move for Ruben Amorim to become the next Liverpool manager.
Having played with the Portuguese gaffer in his playing days at Benfica, Matic told O Jogo: “Ruben Amorim is an excellent person, he was one of the people who helped me the most when I arrived at Benfica because he speaks English very well, I hope he hasn’t forgotten how to speak it now [laughs].
“I see Ruben Amorim at a great club, I don’t know if it will be Liverpool, but if it happens I’m sure he’ll be a great replacement for Klopp because Ruben understands football and has the personality and character to be a great coach, he already is at the moment. I’d like to see him in the Premier League, let’s see what happens from now on.”
Amorim is reportedly a standout candidate to take up the Liverpool job after Klopp steps away at the end of the season. The fact that he’s fluent in English should help the Portuguese coach settle in nicely into the job if he gets it and his good work at Sporting CP indicates that he has the pedigree to ensure the Reds keep fighting for top titles.
However, Ruben is currently focused on helping Sporting win the Liga Portugal title with five more league games remaining in the 2023/24 season.
