Liverpool suffered the most: VAR errors in 2023/24 season revealed by independent panel

According to ESPN, 31 VAR errors were recorded by the Independent Key Match Incidents Panel across the 2023/24 Premier League campaign — and Liverpool have suffered the most.

Four times, VAR made a wrong call against the Reds, resulting in a red card for Alexis Mac Allister, a missed penalty in a draw against Arsenal, a wrongly ruled out goal against Burnley, and, most infamously, a wrongly ruled out goal against Spurs for a non-existent Luis Diaz offside.

At the same time, there wasn't a single occasion when VAR's decision in Liverpool's favour was deemed wrong.

Another reason why Jurgen Klopp in particular can feel vindicated is the referee who committed the most errors as a VAR. Paul Tierney, the official Jurgen Klopp argued with multiple times, is joint top of the list with four errors.

One of them, the red card for Mac Allister, was committed against Liverpool. In another case, a ruled-out goal against Burnley, he made the wrong call on the pitch which was upheld by VAR.
