Leeds fail to secure Premier League promotion — Liverpool could capitalise on it in one way

Southampton have become the third team to secure promotion to the Premier League for the next season. In the Championship play-off final, the Saints defeated Leeds 1-0.

Leeds are in a tough financial situation: according to the Daily Mail, they may have to sell players worth £100million after failing to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

One of the most likely departures is Crysencio Summerville, a 22-year-old winger who won the Championship Player of the Season award after scoring 20 goals in 47 appearances.

Liverpool have been linked with the Dutchman before, and the report confirms that they are still watching the player.

Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle are also claimed to be keen on Summerville who could cost above £30m this summer.

In Michael Edwards' stint as Liverpool's sporting director, the Reds signed well from Championship-bound clubs, getting players like Andy Robertson and Gini Wijnaldum. With him back, there's no reason why the club won't dip into that area of the market again.
