Marcos Rojo has joined his boyhood side Estudiantes on a six-month loan, it was officially confirmed on Thursday.
A statement from Man United reads: "United has reached an agreement with Estudiantes for the loan of Marcos Rojo, pending international clearance. Rojo joined United from Sporting during the summer of 2014 and has made 122 appearances for the club, scored two goals and won four trophies.
"In his loan spell at Estudiantes, Marcos will be reunited with a former team-mate of club and country, Juan Sebastian Veron, the former United player who is currently the club's chairman. Everybody wishes our no.16 good luck for the rest of the campaign."
Rojo has fallen down a pecking order at Old Trafford following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival and his January exit from the club appeared inevitable.
However, the Red Devils have reportedly failed to find a permanent buyer for the 30-year-old this month, forcing them to consider loan offers.
