James Garner: every fact you need to know about United's rising star

General information:

James Garner was born on 13th March 2001 in Birkenhead, England and signed his professional contract at Manchester United on May 23, 2018. On February 27th the youngster made his Premier League debut during our 3-1 win against Crystal Palace.

What kind of player is he?

From the start of James's career, he's been compared to United legend Michael Carrick due to their similar style of play and positioning. Garner is known for his hard work and determination on the pitch which are key factors for a midfielder.

Has he won anything?

James Garner was a key part of the under-18 side that won the Northern Section of their Premier League in 2017-18 and he was the captain of the team on multiple occasions.

In his first full year at Under-18 level, Garner made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals.

Garner was shortlisted for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award for his contributions that season.

Has he started at United's senior squad before?

The game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday will be one of the most important days in James's life as he made his Premier League debut that evening.

He was included in the squad lists before - an unused sub in the matches against Valencia and Reading earlier in the 2018/2019 campaign.

How long has he been at Manchester United?

Jimmy started in the under-8 team and worked tirelessly to survive the process of selection to get to the first team. Undoubtedly, his experience will help him in the Premier League as Solskjaer hinted that we might see him in the next match against Southhampton.

Any international victories?

Garner played in the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League this season. The teenager is credited for the success of England’s U’17 European Championships with his impact being one of the reasons for his current status at United.

Finally, what does our boss think about Jimmy?

"I believe he's got the chance to have a great future. He knows we believe in him, we've got great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick. I know he's young and I know it's not fair on kids to compare to great players like Michael was, but he's the same mould, he plays simple passes, plays through the lines," said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Garner's debut against Crystal Palace. "

"You're at Man United, so Michael had the pressure of coming in after Roy Keane, that's just the way it is at Man United," ended the Norwegian.
