OFFICIAL: Man United will not furlough staff despite coronavirus crisis

Manchester United will not furlough their staff while the Premier League continues to be suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was officially confirmed on Monday.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has written to the club's 900 full-time employees to inform them that the Red Devils will not be using the government's coronavirus job retention scheme.

Therefore, Man Utd's staff will continue to be payed as normal but the staff members unable to work from home have been 'strongly encouraged' to help and volunteer for the National Health Service.

Liverpool have recently been criticised for furloughing about half their non-playing personnel and using the taxpayers' money to cover 80% of wages, forcing the club's owners to reverse their decision.

It's been suggested that the Red Devils are 'under less financial pressure' amid the coronavirus outbreak compared to other Premier League sides after generating a whopping £173 million from commercial income last year.
