Man United legends Bryan Robson, Gary Pallister and Andy Cole reach out to elderly fans amidst lockdown

Manchester United legends Bryan Robson, Gary Pallister and Andy Cole have joined hands with the club staff to reach out to the elderly fans and season ticket-holders in an attempt to bring some cheer into their lives during the lockdown.

A report by the club's official website reveals that they have connected with more than 3,000 supporters and plan to continue doing this.

“We all recognise how difficult a time this is for many of our fans, particularly elderly ones in isolation. A simple phone-call can brighten someone’s day so we’ve put in place a plan to call all our older season-ticket holders and others who we know may be vulnerable," chief operating officer, Colette Roche, explained.

Speaking about the heart-warming experience, Robson said: "You get a real sense of how dedicated the fans are after talking to them. We talked about their favourite players, memorable matches and even spoke about a supporters’ dinner where I was presented with an award.”

According to Michael Leneghan, supporters liaison officer, a 94-year-old lady was "nearly in tears" upon receiving the call.

Manchester United have always extended support to the club's elderly fan base. A good example of this would be the #DonateYourWords campaign to alleviate feelings of loneliness among the more senior supporters.

In addition, the club had even invited some older fans as guests of honour in the game against Watford.
