Manchester United are interested in signing Sunderland teenager Joe Hugill ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, reports The Sun.
Tottenham, currently managed by Jose Mourinho, were believed to be close to a deal for the 16-year-old. In fact, before the lockdown in the UK, the club had even sent a top scout to monitor Hugill's performances.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a monkey wrench to their plans. And United are hoping to capitalize on this delay. Or so The Sun suggests.
A "six-figure fee" is supposedly in the works for the young striker. This comes a few days after club executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had warned that United's transfer activity won't be as usual due to the global economic recession.
The need for a new striker is quite apparent, with even former United star Andy Cole urging the club to look for reinforcements.
We also have the option of signing on-loan star Odion Ighalo permanently, with the striker willing to take a pay-cut to join the United.
