Former Man United defender John O’Shea has opened up on the inspiring message Sir Alex Ferguson used to get across to reenergize the squad spirit after a bad loss left them dejected.
Speaking to the United official website, he said: “I always remember the manager talking about when we played Real Madrid in 2002/03.
“Myself, Wes (Brown), Rio (Ferdinand) and Mikael (Silvestre) were in the back four, the manager spoke about the age of us and the experience we needed to take from losing that tie.
“Every time we lost a final or lost a big game that made us miss out on winning a trophy or winning the league, the message was the same. 'Remember how you feel in this moment and take it into the next campaign. Don’t have this feeling again’.
“Those words go through your head before the next big game, and eventually you’re just conditioned for these situations.”
Stuff like this is why Sir Alex Ferguson was simply the greatest during his time at United. He knew when to be strict on his players and when to warm them down, with his man-management skills playing a big part in the amazing success of his regime.
The Red Devils won 13 Premier League titles under Sir Alex, as well as multiple FA Cup titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns in a legendary reign.
