ESPN: United closely following AS Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder

Man United are stepping up on their pursuit to sign a new striker and are following Wissam Ben Yedder’s situation, according to ESPN.

European football expert Julien Laurens has suggested - citing sources - that the Red Devils are eyeing a potential deal for the Frenchman. It’s claimed that AS Monaco are struggling financially after the coronavirus crisis forced the remainder of the Ligue 1 season to be cancelled.

They could be forced into selling their star striker as they’re aiming to get rid of 30 players from their stacked squad. The report suggests that Monaco are confident of at least recovering the €30m (£26.7m) they spent for him but could be forced to sell for cheaper than they’re like.

United are also the first club to show concrete interest in Ben Yedder. Laurens also indicates that the Frenchman is waiting to see what happens with his future in the coming months.

The Red Devils have also been linked to prolific Lyon striker Moussa Dembele recently from Ligue 1. As Odion Ighalo seems destined to leave after his loan spell expires, United want to stack up on the striking department and are eyeing the dynamic French striker.

Ben Yedder scored 19 goals in all competitions for Monaco this season and could be the ruthless finisher Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep Anthony Martial on his toes.
