Scholes points out how Ole has improved Martial’s goal-scoring ability at United

Speaking after Man United’s 2-1 win over LASK, Paul Scholes told BT Sport: “He’s (Martial) been terrific this season, probably one of the players of the season for Manchester United and tonight was no different.

“I’ve been really impressed with Martial, I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I really like him and I think he’s been brilliant this season. Hopefully there’s a lot more to come from him, not only in the next two weeks but also next season as well.

“I think when Ole first came in, I don’t think Martial was hungry enough for goals. I don’t think he lived on goals, even in training maybe he wasn’t doing his finishing and doing his practising.

“I think Ole has really put that into him because he knows what he is capable of. He’s quick, he’s skilful, he can fly past people, he’s very difficult to play against but he’s added to his finishing and his goalscoring. There is no doubt that this season he has really done that and there was a little nod to Ole after the goal to show that.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained that Anthony Martial’s ecstatic celebration against LASK was because the Frenchman was sure he’d score after ‘begging’ the gaffer to let him on. Martial also became United’s top goal-scorer this season with 23 strikes and will aim to finish the campaign higher than Marcus Rashford (22 goals) to secure bragging rights among the attackers.
