‘He’s desperate to play, he’s the captain’: Solskjaer defends decision to use Maguire every week amid gruelling schedule

Speaking ahead of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals against FC Copenhagen, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked of his decision to use Harry Maguire in every single game and told Man United’s official website: “First of all, he’s desperate to play, he’s the captain.

“There’s a reason why he’s the captain: he always wants to play, but he’s always ready to play.

“He’s missed one game, two games this season maybe through some illness, and I think he just gets sharper and sharper the more he plays. He’ll get his time off after this tournament, so no worries about that.”

Maguire managed an impressive achievement for United by becoming the first outfield player for the club since Gary Pallister to feature in every single Premier League game last season.

He’s only missed a handful of matches so far and knowing that the Englishman himself prefers to play all the time proves his dedication to United’s success.
