Greenwood natural heir to No.9 role & more: 5 positives from West Ham win

Greenwood the natural heir to No.9 role

If Man United’s win against West Ham proved anything, it was that Mason Greenwood’s talents are being wasted by playing him out wide. The teenager looked much sharper and more dangerous after moving in a more central position after Anthony Martial and proved his class with his terrific strike, outwitting the goalkeeper and defender both.

Greenwood also got a few more great chances after that operating through the central areas, where he gets more chances to shoot at goal. With Martial and Edinson Cavani both picking up knocks, it's time for him to play as our centre-forward in the coming games and slowly shape him up as our long-term No.9.

Pogba getting back to his delightful best

Paul Pogba started his first league game for United since that defeat to Arsenal and redeemed himself really well with a superb outing. He kept things very simple with his clever distribution and operated in the deeper role in a compelling fashion. The Frenchman lit the spark of our comeback with an incredible goal and inspired the team to get the job done.

Pogba also worked hard defensively, making key challenges to retain possession and also linked-up brilliantly with Bruno. The Frenchman played with a smile and looked menacing doing so, so we can hope he can keep up this momentum for the rest of the season to power up our midfield.

Ole gets his substitutions spot on

After taking too long to make substitutions against PSG, causing a few problems for United, Solskjaer improved his substitutions against West Ham. Sensing danger, he brought on Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford straight in the second half, helping orchestrate the comeback.

Even bringing on Juan Mata for Martial paid dividends, with the Spaniard assisting Rashford’s strike. Solskjaer got his decisions spot-on against the Hammers and proved that he’s only getting better with making impactful subs.

Wan-Bissaka rediscovering his defensive brilliance

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was put under heavy pressure by both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku on Saturday, but came out on top after an excellent performance. The tackling machine made 8 tackles (as per Fotmob) in the game, including a clutch last-ditch effort to deny Jarrod Bowen an easy scoring chance in the first half.

He also moved the ball forward really well and had a real ‘you shall not pass’ attitude to his game. The right-back is slowly rediscovering his best and seems ready to pocket Raheem Sterling once again in the Manchester Derby next week.

The comeback spirit looking more and more similar to Sir Alex era

With the win on Saturday, United have now won 5 away games from losing positions in consecutive fashion, something we haven’t managed in a long, long time. In fact, the last time we actually managed to make these kind of comeback wins was when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.

Solskjaer's half-time team talks seem to be extremely effective, with the players motivated to make these wins. Obviously, Bruno Fernandes’ never-say-die attitude has also played a huge part, but this United side is starting to look more and more like a Sir Alex Ferguson side with the incredible spirit they show to come back from losing positions.
