Remember Hughes, Whitefield, Robson, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Schmeichel, Cantona, Keane, Cole, Yorke, Solksjaer, Sheringham, van Nistelrooy, Stam, Rooney, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, van Persie, Evra, Vidic, Carrick, Tevez, Berbatov, Pogba, de Gea, Mata, Martial - shall I go on? All bought, at high prices for the times. They all allowed their teams to be successful, while giving the manager the luxury of bringing the youth through. United weren't entirely built on youth, they added youth to the talent and experience they bought in. Even Fergie bought to build his teams, and we rarely lost the young talent, because the best ones got their chances, just like they are under Ole. Understand your history, not some fantasy you have.

Mark Jackson, if you check the list you mentioned they were bought between the range of age you united are looking for 23-28. tevez was free transfer. vidic was unknown de gea, Ronaldo, Rooney, martial, Carrick etc were small boy. just one or two were above the age so what are you talking about.

Abu Aish, The article says they're shifting their focus to signing teenage talent, moving away from their previous policy of 23-28 year olds. Very few teenagers bought in can instantly improve the team enough to make us challenge for trophies, most could take years to develop. I'm not saying don't buy teenagers, or bring our youth through, I'm saying we can't make that our entire transfer policy and wait years for them to be at the level we need so we need to buy players that can improve us straight away, while we ease the younger ones in. Buying teenagers is generally far cheaper and they have potential resale value, that's the only reason the Glazers like the idea.

ive never heard of whitefield and ive been going to old Trafford for 50 odd years.

Abu Aish,Tevez was a loan. Carrick was 25 when he was bought. Hughes was a academy player Ronaldo was 12million pounds which wasn't expensive even in those days. and cantona a million pounds Vidic 7 million pounds teddy a free transfer. and cole 7 million pounds. they were peanuts even in the time we bought them

John Stirrup: Whiteside - autocorrect changed it. Apart from the Class of '92, which was an exceptional year, you've hardly named anyone that made a huge impact at the club, or in football in general.

The transfer strategy should be to buy the best players available to fit the positions we need to strengthen. Age shouldn't be a factor. Buying and developing young talent is good, but we also need to start winning things - and we don't have the luxury of waiting years for talent to develop.

What are your thoughts on Declan Rice? Granted he might be pricey, but I’ve seen a lot of West Ham this season and Rice is looking like a real player.

Mm...he’s good but I don’t like him,i think he’s just been hyped becos he’s English as usual,and mostly lacks pace,compared to zakaria who’s pretty fast for a guy of his stature...can play CB perfectly too,i mean he’s a good dribbler too!! I just really like him,i mean CDM who can do almost anything and good defensive awareness?!Sign me up,Rice apart from his tackling ability idk wat else he’s good at,he’s pretty much bang average if u ask me...,too pricey for a player of his caliber,I’d like to see him perform at a bigger club tbh,sneijderlin was extremely good at soton but see how he performed at a bigger club

Good a replacement for matic....but ....it might def tk time for him to b in the first team,if we need a proven CDM personally denis zakaria wud do,young tall strong he’s pretty much complete for a CDM relatively cheap market price too,n even has loads of room for improvement as if he’s not already dat good
