"Me and the manager haven’t spoken about anything position-related," Scott McTominay said after returning to midfield for Scotland's latest World Cup qualifiers.
"It’s always about how the team can improve, little things that I can do and things I’m doing well. For me, wherever he wants me to play I’m more than happy.
"I know there are a lot of people talking about where I should play, but that’s up to the manager. He’s the one who decides, nobody else can do that."
While there's never been a debate about McTominay's best position at Man United, he has featured regularly as a centre-back for his national team.
Moreover, before the Austria game on Thursday night, he had played seven matches in a row as a defender. Still, he got the Man of the Match award straight after returning to midfield, so Steve Clarke will probably think twice before shifting Scott again.
