On Saturday, the Premier League tweeted the following statement: "In response to the sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and others connected to the game, English football will unite for a social media boycott from 15:00 BST on Fri 30 April to 23:59 BST on Mon 3 May."
All clubs in the Premier League, English Football League, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship will log off their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts amid a rise in online racial abuse cases against footballers.
To make matters worse, tech companies have hardly done much to provide a solution for what's becoming a major concern.
Marcus Rashford, Axel Tuanzebe, Anthony Martial and Fred have also been racially abused on social media this year - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Players from other clubs have faced it too.
Manchester United play Liverpool on May 2 but during that time, the club's official social media accounts will observe a blackout. The players, meanwhile, will not post any messages before or after the game.
