Jose Mourinho sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo after arriving in Italy

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jose Mourinho said: "Cristiano Ronaldo should leave Italy now and leave me in peace! Everybody says, and I say the same, he's not 25 any more. He's 36. He doesn't score 50 goals, but how many did he score? 35.

"The record is incredible, the numbers speak by itself. He is a legend, one of the big names that stays forever in football history, but the guy motivates himself with numbers and new things. He wants to win the gold ball, the golden boot.

"He wants to get the record from the Iran [player] for goals for an international team, he wants to not just play in this Euros but the World Cup. I think critics motivate him. He still gets that extra motivation. Mentally he's very strong."

Mourinho will be taking over at AS Roma this summer and the Portuguese manager could go up against Cristiano (whom he managed at Real Madrid) during the 2021/22 Serie A campaign.

However, it remains to seen whether Ronaldo will stay at Juventus. The 36-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Italy although Manchester United reportedly can't afford his massive salary.
