'Really hope we are serious', 'a no-no for me': Global United community discuss Camavinga links

According to reputable sources from France, Man United intend to meet the agent of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga next week.

Previous reports claimed that Rennes valued their young star at around €100m, but his contract expires in a year which would probably force them to compromise.

Despite that, not every Man United fan is convinced the 18-year-old France international is what the club needs.

levitoepoker: "Same agent as Shaw, free in a year. Ridiculously talented. Let’s make it happen as a going-away present Woodward! Think of it as a parting gift for the next decade."

dare_devil2019: "He has one year left on his contract. A club like Rennes definitely cannot afford to lose a player like him for free. Might get him cheap this summer if we are serious about him."

sauce_murica: "This means we are working on at least 3 potential deals at once. That's a huge improvement from recent years."

Why_S0_Ser10us: "One of the best talents in football right now. People are debating what position he plays. He looks best suited for a box-to-box role Problem is we already have like four B2B midfielders... Ultimately, I'd like if we could sign him but I would also like to see him get enough playing time."

@Muppetiers: "I really hope we are serious about pursuing Camavinga, exactly the type of player we should be looking for in the midfield."

@Nigerianscamsss: "Pogba, Camavinga and Bruno, forget balance, just go out there and score more than them."

@Harlzyy: "I know that United would never in a million years pull this off, but just imagine a summer window of Sancho, Varane and Camavinga."

@_Rob_B: "Camavinga to MUFC has come out of nowhere. Yes, he's a Jonathan Barnett player, a plus point, but it's all just rumour, at present. He's a top youngster, but not sure he's United's priority as things stand. Would I like him at our club? Yes, please."

Dean Baxter: "I'd love to see Eduardo Camavinga at United. Already a superb talent and would certainly soften the blow should Pogba decide to leave. I mentioned him earlier in the year when the French league was having its sponsorship crisis. €100m is a bit excessive though and he probably has a point about wanting to continue in France."

Gabriel Izehi Faithman: "I don't think he's worth that price, moreover, the French league is not EPL, I don't think he's the answer for our defensive midfield problem."

Paul Shola: "Why is it that Man United are always attracted to players whose club’s transfer demands are very high? €100m for an 18-year-old playing in France? That’s a No-No for me."

CM10: "This would be a smart signing. The sort Bayern are often praised for making. I do agree with the suggestions that Camavinga probably doesn't address an immediate need in the team as he's young and a slightly different profile to what we need but he'll no doubt be among the best in his position in a few years time. If we went for him as the prodigy type signing a la Amad last summer plus a more cultured midfielder we'd be laughing, not that I expect it to happen."

bsCallout: "The more I watch him the more I think he would work really well next to Pogba. He's everywhere, a really good tackler, and Pogba has the range of passing you'd want next to him. Definitely a player we'd use to moan about our board's incompetence when another team snaps him up."

DJ_21: "This is the midfielder I’ve been wanting us to sign for ages. He’s quality at tackling and he’s up there with Wan-Bissaka as one of the best tacklers in Europe."

Bojan Djordjic: "He is 18 and is already better than McTominay. I think that's clear. He's had an underwhelming season for him but has been a stats leader at 17 in a top-5 league. That alone is incredible and a strong indicator for his future."
