'Wan-Bissaka can't defend. Man United must go all out for Trippier' - QPR striker Charlie Austin

Speaking to Talksport after Raphael Varane’s signing, QPR striker Charlie Austin said: “Although Manchester United have signed [Raphael] Varane, their biggest problem is they need a right-back.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not up to the [required] quality. We played them the other day, and I know it was only a pre-season, but they need to go all out for Kieran Trippier. That’s who they’re crying out for. Aaron Wan-Bissaka can’t defend!

“And his final ball is not what a centre-forward wants, it’s not what [Edinson] Cavani wants, it’s not what [Marcus] Rashford wants. They need to sign Kieran Trippier.

“With all due respect, if Aaron Wan-Bissaka is your right-back, are Man United going to win Premier Leagues and silverware? I’m not too sure. They need to strengthen there, definitely.”

Austin did score in QPR’s recent pre-season friendly win over Man United recently, but that seems to have impacted his football knowledge. Wan-Bissaka has been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League over the last few seasons and arguably the best one defensively.

He’s pocketed Raheem Sterling in multiple Manchester Derbies and dominated many quality wingers in the league. When it comes to Trippier, the Red Devils will have to first sell some players before they look to make any more signings this summer – as Atletico Madrid’s £30m+ demands for the right-back is too much to bear for United right now.
