The 26-year-old is no longer wanted at Atletico Madrid, and the Premier League seems to be his next destination.
United are not alone in their interest in the Spain international: Chelsea are also looking at this opportunity, despite having the likes of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.
Still, as per Spanish outlet AS, Man United remain ahead of their Premier League rivals, although Chelsea have 'come a long way in the last hours'.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the information, claiming that Man United have approached Atletico Madrid again in the last 24 hours while Chelsea already have a bid on the table.
Saul has for a long time been a Man United target, with some rumours dating back to 2016.
However, this is probably the best opportunity to sign him yet, now that Atletico Madrid are no longer willing to keep him at all costs.
