In an extraordinary rant on Talksport, a Man United ‘fan’ named Dave claimed that the club ought to have signed Danny Ings instead of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
He said: “I don’t think we should have signed Ronaldo to start with.
“I was quite happy for him to go to City, I think we should have signed Danny Ings.”
Further adding on why Ronaldo’s acquisition won’t be a good one, he added: “He’s too slow, he’s not going to work hard enough for us.
“Whereas Danny Ings works his backside off for his team. I don’t give a damn, I loved Ronaldo when I watched him play, I loved him!. But now is the wrong time.”
This could, of course, be a case of a rival fan acting as a United supporter and just trolling to spark controversy. Even in terms of comparison, it’s a hilarious one.
Ings scored 13 goals and registered 4 assists across all competitions for Southampton last season, while Ronaldo had 45 goal contributions across all competitions. Cristiano was also the joint-top scorer of the Euro 2020 and won the Serie A golden boot last season as well.
Let’s not even compare Ronaldo’s personal accolades (which include 5 Ballon d’Or titles and 6 Champions League medals) with Ings – who is currently playing with Aston Villa.
