Despite Derby's financial struggles, Rooney's loyalty towards the club is truly commendable.

 parted ways with Rafa Benitez earlier this week. Rumours have immediately linked 

 legend insists that while he is 'flattered' by the rumours, the Toffees have to contact Derby County first.

"I'm the same as everyone else, I see the speculation on social media and in the newspapers and, of course, Everton is a club I grew up supporting," Rooney said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"I'm flattered to get brought up in those conversations, but I know Everton will know that for them to have any communication with me they have to go through the administrators.

"Everyone loves a fairytale, but from my point of view my focus is on the game tomorrow. It's a massive game, it's a local derby and I have to make sure I treat it with the utmost respect it deserves, and this club deserves.

"They haven't come calling to the administrators, so I'm not letting anything distract me from the job I'm doing here. 

"I understand the questions have to be asked, but there has been no communication [from Everton] with the administrators, so I can't say much more on the matter."

Duncan Ferguson is Everton's current caretaker manager. He recently admitted that he doesn't have the experience needed to take the job on a permanent basis. 

Rooney has been praised for his job at Derby, keeping the Rams' survival hopes alive despite a 21-point deduction.

 even after taking a 21-point deduction this season.

Because of the deduction, the Rams currently only have 1 point from 19 games and are 16 points adrift of safety.

But in the 19 matches, Rooney’s side have only lost 5 games – as many as 4th place QPR.

They’ve drawn 10 games and picked up 4 wins, including a recent one against second-place 

 to a goalless draw in their last game – showcasing incredible resolve to do so.

 captain has promised to stick with Derby in their difficult period and will try his best to ensure they survive relegation even after taking a 21-point deduction.
