Why Greenwood could technically return to Man United this week – explained

The 20-year-old is currently suspended by the club after being accused of rape and assault by his girlfriend.

 clubs are legally only allowed to suspend their players for two weeks, with full pay. 

So technically, Greenwood could return to Carrington this week if he’d want to.

That being said, because of the allegations around him and media pressure, he’s not likely to pursue a return to Old Trafford anytime soon.

Moreover, United won’t let him train with the squad or come anywhere near the matchday squad as long as the investigations into his case continue. 

Nike ends all ties with Greenwood after rape allegations, will no longer sponsor him

 will no longer be sponsored by Nike after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

A Nike spokesperson told The Athletic: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.”

Nike had already suspended all advertisements concerning Greenwood after he was accused of rape and assault by his girlfriend and arrested last week.

The Englishman remains indefinitely suspended by 

 as well and will not be allowed to take part in any training or match activity.

Greenwood has refused to respond to his allegations so far and the Greater Manchester Police are still investigating the case.

“Some of those closest to him feel the course of justice should be allowed to run. But when some of the players started dumping him, they felt they had to as well.

“One of the players said it showed how the squad wasn’t together and showed that too many times they act as individuals.”

 confirmed a few days ago that the Greenwood allegations were ‘a topic of discussions’ among players over the last week.

 after spending many days in prison earlier this week, but the Greater Manchester Police are still continuing investigations towards his sexual assault allegations.

thank you for such a word, it clearly just shows that there is no unity amidst them, the guy has not been convicted already and they have started dumping him and making him feel too terrible as if is the one one that has committed the worst crime even if later convicted.

Greenwood was accused of rape and it was not just an accusation as in other cases. There was an audio recording, everyone heard his voice. Is your argument that rape should not be taken seriously or what point are you making? 
He should be supported just because he’s young? Is being young a justification for Rape or what’s going on here?

I see a lot of hypocrisy in our squad. Mason Greenwood is a young player and we know such shortcomings are there with every teen-ager. I expect United players to stand with Greenwood until he's proven guilty. many have been through so many scandals but people stood by them
