Fred has sent a supportive message to the Brazilian footballers who are trapped in Ukraine as the country is being invaded by Russian forces.
In a video posted on social media by Shakhtar Donetsk forward Junior Moraes with his family and fellow players, the Brazilian said: “The situation is one of despair. I ask you to disclose this video so that it reaches the [Brazilian] government.
“Borders are closed, banks [are shut], there is no fuel, there will be a shortage of food, there is no money. We are gathered waiting for a plan to leave Ukraine.”
Fred saw this and replied, tweeting: “Very sad moment that our friends from Ukraine are going through. My prayers are all for you.
“I very much hope that this situation will be resolved as soon as possible and that peace will be reestablished. God bless you all!”
Ukraine is in the midst of a ‘full-scale invasion’ from Russia, with over 100 Ukranian soldiers being killed in attacks on the country.
The Ukraine Premier League is suspended due to martial law is imposed on the country, with nations looking to deescalate the situation by imposing heavy sanctions on Russia.
