How Darwin Nunez joining Liverpool has changed Erik ten Hag's transfer strategy — explained

Manchester United recently lost out on signing Darwin Nunez as the striker opted to join Liverpool instead.

Nunez, 23, was a target for Erik ten Hag but discussions broke down over a case of food poisoning. Furthermore, United weren't keen on spending £85 million for the Uruguayan.

As a result, ESPN understands Ten Hag is now no longer looking for an out-and-out striker in the market.

The Dutchman is reportedly happy with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line. Ten Hag is looking at more versatile options right now, with Ajax winger Antony being high on the list.

However, Ajax are demanding a fee of around £68 million to part ways with the Brazilian. That's a lot more than what United are hoping to pay, thus making it tough to reach an agreement.
