Speaking to the Telegraph, Jamie Carragher said: "Gareth Southgate's changes [against Wales] reflected England's security in the group. To go deep in the competition it is imperative players are rested.
"Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka will have had over a week off by the time they meet Senegal on Sunday. Mason Mount, who is responsible for so much of the high pressing in the line-up, will also be fresh.
"Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden brought the freshness everyone anticipated, demonstrating how hungry they were. They have given Southgate a wonderful dilemma. The manager knows they are in the right shape to make an impact."
Rashford replaced Arsenal's Saka in the starting XI against Wales on Tuesday, scoring twice to send England through to the World Cup Round of 16.
Southgate will now have to make a massive decision on who to start on the right side of the attack in the knockout clash against Senegal on Sunday.
