Speaking about his surprise with Erik ten Hag’s work at Man United and how he succeeded at Old Trafford in his first season, Dutch legend Ruud Gullit told A Bola: “I’m surprised, we’re all surprised, with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
“The Dutch Eredivisie does not have the same levels of competitiveness as the Premier League, perhaps the most attractive championship in world football, but the truth is that he was able to impose a work philosophy and the playing formula that he advocates.
“Personally, I think that the very controversial episode with Cristiano Ronaldo ended up benefiting him. At that moment, with what he said and did, he won over the dressing room and the fans. The results confirm it.”
United have indeed been performing much better since Ronaldo departed the club, only losing two games in all competitions since he left in November.
The Red Devils have gone on to win the Carabao Cup and are strongly competing for the FA Cup and Europa League titles too – while also securing a top-3 place in the Premier League.
