Speaking on Scott McTominay and Marcel Sabitzer ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Erik ten Hag said: "He’s made really good steps.
"He’s close, but not close enough to make the selection for [Wolves]."
McTominay has missed the last nine in all competitions due to an injury. Sabitzer’s absence was a surprise when the teams were named ahead of the game, with no mention of a knock in the build-up.
Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho netted as Man United grabbed an important three points in the race for the top four.
The win over Wolves saw the Red Devils move four points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool and draw level on points with Newcastle United in third.
All three sides have now played the same number of games with Liverpool in action next when they travel to Leicester City on Monday night.
