Man United have reportedly held detailed talks with Atalanta over the prospect of signing their young striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer.
The Red Devils are ‘likelier’ to sign him rather than Randal Kolo Muani, as they aim to improve their frontline next season.
Hojlund has been described as ‘Erling Haaland 2.0’ in the past and has been praised for his impressive pace as well as goal-scoring ability.
So let’s have a look at two ways that the Red Devils can line up with Hojlund next season (consisting of players only from the current squad).
Option 1: New no.9
Erik ten Hag is craving for a new reliable no.9 who can lead the attack for his side and bring him goals. Hojlund can do just that, as he craves the role of a lone striker.
Hojlund’s impressive off-the-ball movement, clever moving and clinical finishing skills should help him adapt well to Man United and lower the pressure on the other forwards.
Option: A partner for Rashford up-front
The potential arrival of Hojlund can also allow Ten Hag to tinker with his formation for the side. He could potentially change to a more attack-minded 4-4-2 formation in games against weaker sides to amplify Man United’s goal-scoring ability.
Hojlund can play just ahead of Marcus Rashford, who can be given the free role of a second striker. Jadon Sancho can fit in on the left-wing, while Bruno Fernandes plays the role of a box-to-box no.8 alongside Casmeiro in midfield.
