The errors he made in games against Sevilla in the Europa League, West Ham in the Premier League and Manchester City in the FA Cup final ultimately prompted Ten Hag to let him go.
Prior to these three games, the boss was open to the thought of keeping De Gea as our No.1 for one more season at least.
After 12 years of loyalty, De Gea left Manchester United as a free agent once it was confirmed over the weekend.
Despite being offered a new contract, the Red Devils did a u-turn at the last moment and revised their conditions.
That did not sit well with De Gea, who decided to look for pastures anew. He's yet to find a new club since leaving Man United.
