Captain Bruno – 9, Antony – 4: rating Man United players in Arsenal win

The new Man United captain led from the front, encouraging his teammates to play the ball forward and moving around like a bee to trouble Arsenal. Created a few nice chances with his final third delivery and opened the scoring for his side with a clever left-footed effort. Dictated the tempo for his side and was at the heart of many promising moves in the first half.

The teenager’s stocks keep on rising under Ten Hag. Mainoo refused to be bullied by the Arsenal midfielders and performed beyond his years. He moved the ball forward well and ran out in different positions to keep the opponents guessing. Mainoo played a role in both goals, assisting on the first before his lobbed pass led to the second.

Once again playing in the false no.9 role, Sancho looked much more efficient in this. He linked up smoothly with teammates and made great off-the-ball runs. Scored his first of pre-season by pouncing on a mistake and finishing emphatically. Needs to pick up after this impressive display.

On a day when many Man United fans hoped to see Onana in action, Heaton stole the spotlight in goal. Made an amazing double save to deny Arsenal an early goal and made a few other saves after this too. Heaton’s passing ability and general distribution was impressive too, playing a part in the opener.

Wan-Bissaka looks a man transformed under Ten Hag’s system and was very flexible with his movement. He often wandered into the box and into central areas to help open up his side’s shape. Defensively solid again and impressive with his link up play going forward.

The Argentine winger looked a bit sluggish in his first appearance of pre-season. While his movement was nice at times, his final product was missing and he lacked that ruthlessness in his game too. Should get better with more game time, though.

Antony – 4

Antony didn’t help his case early on, missing a huge scoring effort from a few yards away from goal inside the box on his stronger foot. While his defensive work was admirable, Antony struggled to deliver genuine chances and only had a late effort go wide. Needs to work on making his final product more efficient.

Varane – 6.5, Martinez – 6, Shaw – 6.5, Mount – 6.5
