Captaincy long in the making: Bruno's emergence as Man United leader goes back to 2020

Bruno Fernandes has been officially appointed Manchester United's new captain with Erik ten Hag making the decision to strip Harry Maguire of the armband.

The Portuguese, who was the Red Devils' de-facto skipper last season, had made the case for the captaincy long ago — from his very first days at the club.

As per Manchester Evening News, Bruno requested to head out onto the pitch once he had signed his paperwork on his first day at Carrington in January 2020.

The midfielder wanted to be as well prepared as possible for the Wolves game two days later, thus quickly establishing as a leader among Man United players.
