's search for a new striker is finally over with 

, the Red Devils have made signing a new midfielder their new transfer priority before the August 31 deadline. 

 remains Man United's preferred midfield target as the talks with the 

 side over the transfer fee for the player continue.

The 26-year-old's contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and the Red Devils are hoping to strike a cut-price deal in the region of £30 million for 

Gary Lineker impressed by Mason Mount transfer — but not so much by Rasmus Hojlund

. He's an under-rated and under-radar player.

"He presses so well and works hard. He dipped at 

 last year but so did everyone at Stamford Bridge. He needs this fresh start.

"Man United have spent a lot of money on 20-year-old Danish striker 

 and I can't say I have seen a lot of him.

"Perhaps they see him more as one for the long term but I'm not convinced he's going to make the difference for them [this season]."

Mount has done okay for Man United during the pre-season tour but it's too early to make a judgement on Hojlund who's yet to make his debut for the Red Devils.

 and his coaches believe it could take two-three years for the £72 million striker to realise his full potential under the right guidance at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes: 'Man United need aggressive and passionate players like Mason Mount'

: "We need that aggression and passion, we need players to be like that in games. 

"These are the kind of players that I like to play against and even more to have in my side. 

"Now, I will do everything I can to defend him." 

The captain continued: "I said a couple of years ago that he is one of the best players in the Premier League. 

"We’re really happy to have him here, wherever he plays, as a No 10, No 8 or a winger.

"He’s really good at pressing, he has a lot of energy and he’s really good on the ball. He has goals and assists in him too. We’re expecting a lot from him but he’s aware of that."

Mount and Fernandes have all the makings needed to forge a formidable midfield partnership. Both players are a serious goal threat and also have the ability to create scoring chances for the forwards. 

Since joining for £55 million this summer, Mount has looked promising whenever he's played during pre-season so far.
