It emerged on Saturday evening that Man United are exploring a potential loan move for Marc Cucurella. Right-back Diego Dalot currently plays on the left in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia so the club has apparently decided to bring a new left-back.
Some are pointing to Alvaro Fernandez, a United academy graduate who impressed in the pre-season, as a better, and less costly, option than Cucurella.
And a Man United fan Khay14 insists that it's a part of the bigger trend: Ten Hag simply doesn't trust youngsters and is not particularly keen on developing them.
Khay 14 wrote on Tribuna: "I’m just wondering why Ten Hag isn’t promoting the young academy talent we have and always thinking about buying ready-made players.
"We all wanted him for Manchester United when he was at Ajax due to his willingness to promote young players and make them good players but since he’s got the job he only promoted Garnacho and Kobie Mainoo which was just this year.
"Other young talents that we have have not gotten game time and he keeps playing senior players even when it's obvious that they are tired and need rest to come back stronger
"Pellistri, Amad, Mejbri, Iqbal, Williams and Gore have all got just 5-10 minutes of play time and how do you expect them to develop Into world bitters that the whole world talk about?
"You brought Antony who was so young and he’s playing every match even when he’s not giving us the exact desired results but you refused to give other young talent at the same age as Antony the same game time?
"I’m starting to lose faith in Ten Hag because not everything is about signing players but to develop young ones we already have in the academy which will save us money 💰.
"Because right now I don’t quite understand why we have the academy if the coach can’t trust them to come in and do a good job while we have senior players injured or some not outing their game."
