Man United risk losing Ten Hag's right-hand man — Van Gaal might play a role (reliability: 5 stars)

According to The Athletic, Ajax may target Man United assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag as their next head coach.

The move would be supported by Louis van Gaal: the former Man United boss joined the Dutch club as an advisor amid the turmoil that sees the Eredivisie giants in the relegation area as they lie 16th in an 18-team league.

Van der Gaag was Erik ten Hag's assistant at Ajax before moving with his boss to Manchester. Before that, he worked with the youth sides at the club.

Van Gaal admires Van der Gaag, but Ajax understand that getting him away from United would be a hard task.

So far, they are yet to decide the fate of current manager Maurice Steijn who only took over in the summer.
