Man United 'trusted' Erik ten Hag and signed Andre Onana over Emi Martinez

According to The Independent, Manchester United initially wanted to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez over the summer.

Emi Martinez has been in great form lately, winning the Yashin Trophy after his superb displays in the World Cup.

Martinez is known for being an explosive personality on the field but his displays within the sticks remain solid.

It was Erik ten Hag who persisted with signing Andre Onana instead and the club 'trusted' him and went ahead.

Now, Onana has not really wowed at Old Trafford but Ten Hag believes he will still come good and prove his critics wrong.
