Will Scott McTominay now be used only as a super-sub? Erik ten Hag provides answer

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game on Sunday, Erik ten Hag said: "Scott McTominay is a super-sub but he can also start games.

"You have to credit a player like Scott. He is an example for many players these days. There are not many players any more who are ready for every minute

"You have to ready to be on the pitch. Today we have seen another example. He is always ready to come on and make a difference."

McTominay came off the bench in the 73rd minute against Aston Villa on Sunday to score the winning goal and make the score 2–1 for Manchester United.

Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are currently Ten Hag's preferred options in holding midfield, limiting the Scot to occasional appearances from the bench.
