Two Man United players named in England squad, Southgate explains Mainoo snub

Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for their upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium in the March international window.

Man United have two representatives in the form of Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford named in the squad for the friendlies.

However, Kobbie Mainoo has still not been able to earn a call-up – with Jordan Henderson retaining his place in the squad.

Gareth Southgate gave his reasoning for this, saying: “He’s doing brilliantly for a young player. We're never slow to put a young player into the seniors but he's only had a handful of games. He's getting some fabulous experience at Man Utd, he looks really good character.”

Mainoo is likely to play for the England U21s in the near future, despite having a wonderful debut campaign at Old Trafford.

England faces Brazil on March 23 and Belgium on March 26 in the upcoming international window, as the team prepares for the Euro 2024 in the summer.
