Erik ten Hag believes there's plenty of work to be done in terms of transfers this summer.
"There’s always a lot of work," explained the boss at his pre-match press conference, quoted by The Metro.
"It’s normal when you go into a transfer window…but we’ve had injuries and they’ve had a big impact.
"We know we are below our levels of expectations that Manchester United have so we have to catch up.
"I’m now going into my fifth window [at United] I think. Two windows were quite okay, two we missed.
"We have to make new improvements this summer but also there is a base in this squad that is very good. The injuries have had a big impact on our season."
As negotiations rumbled on with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim, the only other contender interested in a takeover, Man United's transfer business took a massive hit.
Ratliffe faces a huge challenge at Old Trafford; he will succeed if he uses 2023/24 as a blueprint for what goes wrong without adequate players.
