3 more players Man United are likely to release as free agents after Raphael Varane

Man United started their summer clearout with the announcement that they will allow Raphael Varane to leave after his contract expires.

The Frenchman will become a free agent on July 1 after the club opted against giving him a new contract because of his whopping £340,000-a-week wages.

But Varane is not the only Man United player who will be released in the summer. Here we look at three more who are likely to follow him out.

The Red Devils failed to sell Martial in January due to an injury issue, but he won’t be kept beyond this season. Man United have already decided to not renew his contract, which expires at the end of June too.

The Frenchman has had a poor 2023/24 season, only scoring twice in 19 appearances. His last appearance came in the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in December, which is likely to be his final one.

Williams enjoyed a decent 2023/24 season in which he was part of the Ipswich Town squad that got promoted to the Premier League. He scored two goals in 17 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side.

Unfortunately, Williams has no future at Old Trafford anymore. He is poised to be released too after his contract expires at the end of June. His off-the-field disciplinary issues haven’t really helped his case either.

Jonny Evans re-joined Man United on a one-year deal last year. He has actually been decent this season, producing some impressive performances, especially in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool. But Evans is also 36 and his legs are showing major signs of ageing. Man United are unlikely to give him a new deal and there have been no reports of any offer either.
