Liverpool have confirmed Arne Slot will take over as manager, setting the Dutchman on a collision course with Erik ten Hag should his compatriot stay at Manchester United.
In February 2023, Slot showered praises on Ten Hag for setting a precedent for Dutch coaches. "Erik is doing great and that is fantastic for the entire Dutch trainers' guild," he gushed.
"It took quite a long time before a number of great trainers from the Netherlands got a successor.
"That seems to me to be the case with Ten Hag. Certainly the way it happens and how praiseworthy it is spoken about is a positive development for me and all Dutch people."
Slot and Ten Hag know each other from their time in the Netherlands. As Ajax's boss, Ten Hag won successive Eredivisie titles in 2021 and 2022 respectively while Slot managed AZ Alkmaar.
As coach of Feyenoord, Slot reached the Europa Conference League final last season and then clinched the Eredivisie title. He lifted the KNVB Cup this term as Feyenoord finished second in the league behind PSV.
